HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested a male Australian video streamer over the alleged assault of another male foreigner in Sapporo City’s Chuo Ward earlier this month, reports Hokkaido News (Feb. 13).
At around 9:00 p.m. p.m. on February 8, the unnamed Aussie, 32, is suspected of hitting a fellow streamer, 38, multiple times with a selfie stick on a sidewalk in the Susukino entertainment area.
The victim, an Indian national, suffered cuts to the face. However, his injuries are not considered serious, police said.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of assault resulting in injury, the Australian denied the allegations. “I didn’t hit him with a stick. It’s a lie,” he said in English.
According to police, both the suspect and the victim had previously experienced disputes with one another in the past. On the day of the incident, they met by chance.
After the incident, officers rushed to the scene and questioned both parties. After confirming the facts, police arrested the Aussie at his hotel in Asahikawa City on Thursday.
Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
