Two suspects flee barefoot after crashing stolen car in Tokyo police chase

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are hunting for two men who fled barefoot after a stolen vehicle they were traveling in crashed onto a sidewalk during a pursuit in Taito Ward on Tuesday, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 13).

According to Tokyo police, a patrol car spotted a suspicious black passenger vehicle driving without an illuminated license plate in the Higashi-Ueno area at around 6:40 p.m.

When officers ordered the vehicle to pull over, the car began to decelerate. However, two men suddenly bailed out of the vehicle and dashed away from the scene.

Left uncontrolled, the passenger car mounted the pavement and plowed down a traffic sign before coming to a halt. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Subsequent checks by police revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

A manhunt is now underway for the two suspects, who officers noted made their getaway completely barefoot.
