NAGASAKI (TR) – A 25-year-old municipal worker in Omura City has been fired after using a hidden spare key to trespass into his female neighbor’s apartment to snoop around, local authorities said, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 2).
In June, the male employee discovered a key left inside a bag in the mailbox of a woman living next door to his apartment. Seizing the opportunity, he used the key to let himself inside, where he spent approximately three minutes rummaging through the residence.
When asked by reporters if the man was attempting to steal women’s underwear, a city representative clarified his bizarre motive.
“He said he had no intention of stealing,” the spokesperson explained. “He insisted that he purely just wanted to ‘look.'”
The official’s paranoia ultimately led to his downfall. After locking the door and returning the key, he immediately went back inside the woman’s apartment. During city hearings, the man admitted, “I was worried I might have left behind evidence, like my hair or fingerprints.”
As he exited the apartment for the second time, he came face-to-face with another resident of the building. Flustered, the official offered a flimsy excuse: “I found a key, picked it up, and tried it on the door, and it just happened to open.”
The man has since admitted to the allegations. During a press conference, Omura mayor Hiroshi Sonoda apologized for the scandal, confirming that local police had conducted search and seizure operations at the ex-employee’s home and workplace.
When asked about the man’s character, the city representative hesitated before stating, “Let’s just say his work performance was by no means good.”
The official was handed a disciplinary dismissal on August 31. Police are currently continuing their investigation into the man on a voluntary basis.
