KANAGAWQA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched an investigation into suspected foul play after a 17-year-old high school boy succumbed to severe head injuries days after being found collapsed on a farm road in Sagamihara City, reports NHK (Aug. 24).
Setsuna Shimizu, a second-year high school student residing in the city’s Midori Ward, was pronounced dead at a hospital on Monday.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on August 22, emergency services received a 119 call from a young woman who reported, “It appears my male friend has been beaten.”
First responders rushed to the agricultural road in the Tana area of Chuo Ward, where they found Shimizu lying unconscious near a motorcycle. According to police, he had suffered significant trauma to the head, indicating a violent assault.
Four teenagers, consisting of young men and women including the girl who placed the emergency call, were present at the scene when authorities arrived.
Investigators are treating the death as a criminal case and are currently questioning the group of teens who were with the victim to piece together the events leading up to the fatal beating.
The crime scene is located in a quiet, rural area surrounded by fields, just over 500 meters west of Banda Station on the JR Sagami Line.
