HYOGO (TR) – A man in his 40s is unconscious and in critical condition after attempting to hang himself inside a restroom stall at a police station early on Wednesday morning, reports Kansai TV (Aug. 5).
The man had been brought into the Nada Police Station on a voluntary basis and was undergoing questioning that began around 3:00 a.m.
During the interrogation, the man asked to use the restroom. An escorting officer waited outside the cubicle but grew suspicious when the man failed to respond to his calls. At approximately 5:00 a.m., the officer checked the stall and discovered the man hanging by his own shoelaces.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but remains in a coma and in critical condition.
Prefectural police are currently investigating the detailed circumstances surrounding the incident and how the suicide attempt occurred while the man was under police supervision.
