Suspected drunk driver found sleeping at Wakayama intersection tells police his address is ‘secret’

WAKAYAMA (TR) – Police in Wakayama City have arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly parked his car in the middle of a national highway intersection and fell asleep, later giving bizarre excuses to investigating officers, reports TV Asahi (June 24).

At around 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, the suspect stopped his light passenger vehicle in a driving lane at an intersection along Route 24 in the Kurusu area. He remained parked there for approximately an hour and a half.

A passerby alerted authorities by calling 110, reporting, “A car is stopped in the road and isn’t moving, even when the signal turns green.” Responding officers arrived at the scene to find the man fast asleep inside the vehicle.

When officers woke the man to question him, he refused to speak, abandoned his vehicle, and attempted to casually walk away from the scene. He was immediately placed under arrest for a parking violation under the Road Traffic Act.

During police questioning, the suspect remained uncooperative and defiant. When asked to explain his actions, he told officers, “I’ll answer tomorrow.” When pressed for his address and occupation, he simply replied, “It’s a secret.”

On Tuesday afternoon, police announced the man had been rearrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. His identity remains undisclosed as the investigation continues.
