Tokyo man on e-scooter arrested for groping woman: ‘I succumbed to temptation’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 23-year-old company employee after he allegedly groped a stranger while riding an electric scooter earlier this year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 17).

Taiga Kishimoto, a resident of Takanawa in Minato Ward, has admitted to allegations of non-consensual indecency. “I succumbed to temptation,” he told investigators.

At around 1:30 a.m. on May 23, Kishimoto allegedly approached a woman in her 30s from behind as she was walking home on a street in Nishi-Gotanda, Shinagawa Ward. He then embraced the woman and fondled her breasts.

According to the Osaki Police Station, Kishimoto was commuting from his workplace in Chiyoda Ward on the electric kick scooter at the time, actively scouting the streets for potential victims as he rode.

When the woman screamed, Kishimoto fled the scene. However, he emerged as a suspect after investigators analyzed footage from nearby security cameras.

Kishimoto has hinted to police that he has committed similar assaults against other women, and authorities are currently investigating the possibility of additional crimes.
