Man rams minivan into LDP lawmaker’s office in Kyoto

KYOTO (TR) – Police have arrested a 65-year-old man after he crashed a minivan into the local office of a ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lawmaker and fled the scene, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (June 15).

Kim Su-jae, a South Korean national and self-employed resident of Maizuru City who also uses the Japanese name Kazuya Shibata, is accused of violating the Road Traffic Act.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 13, Kim rammed the vehicle he was driving into the Maizuru office of LDP House of Representatives member Taro Honda, 52.

Despite causing significant damage to the building’s rolling shutters, the suspect allegedly fled the scene without reporting the collision.

Upon his arrest, Kim admitted to the allegations.

“I made a mistake in my driving and crashed,” the suspect told investigators. “I panicked and ran away.”

Police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances leading up to the crash.
