AICHI (TR) – Police here launched an investigation after the bodies of a 35-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son were discovered at the bottom of a bridge in the village of Toyone on Friday, reports TBS News (ay 22).
At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers found the pair lying dead on the rocky terrain roughly 33 meters below the railing of the Yokohira Ohashi bridge. Police revealed the deceased mother was found with her arms tightly wrapped around her young son.
The victims, identified as residents of Iida City in neighboring Nagano Prefecture, were the subject of an active missing persons report.
During the search, officers located the mother’s vehicle parked on the bridge, prompting them to check the gorge below where they made the gruesome discovery.
According to investigators, the vehicle was left unlocked, and there were no signs of a struggle or that the interior had been ransacked.
Authorities are currently investigating the case from the perspectives of both a accident and potential foul play.
