Aichi man arrested for attacking acquaintance with ice pick, hammer

AICHI (TR) – Police here have arrested a 53-year-old unemployed man for the attempted murder of an acquaintance using an ice pick and a hammer, reports CBC TV (May 17).

According to police, Mikiyoshi Kakuda assaulted the 57-year-old victim at an apartment complex in the Midoricho area of Gamagori City at around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Kakuda is accused of stabbing the man in the right arm multiple times with an ice pick and repeatedly striking him in the head with a hammer.

Immediately following the brutal attack, Kakuda called the police himself to report the crime, telling the dispatcher, “I just stabbed someone. I think he’ll die soon.”

Despite the suspect’s prediction, the victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. Medical staff confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening.

Upon his arrest, Kakuda admitted to the attempted murder charge. Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, suspecting that an underlying personal dispute between the two men led to the violent outburst.
