SAITAMA (TR) — Police in Koshigaya City have arrested a 42-year-old unemployed woman for allegedly obstructing police duties after she made a bogus emergency call claiming she had been slashed with a knife, reports the Saitama Shimbun (May 14).
At around 1:19 p.m. on Tuesday, the suspect, a resident of the city’s Shimomakuri area, called emergency services and falsely reported, “My friend cut my stomach with a knife.”
The fire department immediately forwarded the call to the police, who scrambled officers and initiated an emergency deployment to hunt down the assailant.
A massive police response ensued over the next hour. However, when responding officers rushed to the scene, they found the woman completely unharmed. Realizing the report was entirely fabricated, police took her into custody for fraudulent obstruction of business.
Upon her arrest, the suspect denied the allegations. “I just reported it as a victim,” she told investigators.
The Koshigaya Police Station is currently investigating the motive behind the hoax.
