Aichi man accused of threatening Nintendo HQ: ‘I will bomb you bastards’

KYOTO (TR) – Police in Kyoto City have arrested a 27-year-old man from Aichi Prefecture for allegedly sending a bomb threat to the headquarters of video game giant Nintendo, disrupting the company’s business operations, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 12).

The unnamed suspect, a resident of Hekinan City, is accused of mailing an envelope in March containing a letter with a warning directed at the gaming company.

According to the Minami Police Station, the handwritten message read: “I will bomb you bastards. I have already planted numerous bombs at Nintendo Co., Ltd.”

Upon his arrest on Tuesday, the suspect admitted to the charge of forcible obstruction of business.

Nintendo staff contacted authorities immediately after receiving the threatening letter on March 16. Police officers conducted a thorough search of the headquarters in Minami Ward and the surrounding area, but no explosives or suspicious objects were discovered, and no injuries were reported.

Police are currently investigating to determine the specific motive behind the threat.
