Oita man, 58, suspected of dumping corpse of missing teen girl in mountains

OITA (TR) – Oita Prefectural Police have announced the arrest of a 58-year-old man for allegedly abandoning a body in the mountains of Bungo-Ono City last month, reports NHK (Apr. 12).

During questioning, Tadashi Himeno, a resident of Oita City, confessed to abandoning the body of a teenage girl living in the prefecture who went missing last month. Police are continuing their search for the body and investigating the details of the case.

The teenage girl went missing after being at her home on the night of March 2. Police later received a report from her family and began an investigation.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect appeared to have had contact with the girl. After questioning on April 11, he confessed to abandoning the body, which led to his arrest.

Based on the suspect’s statements, a search of the mountains of Bungo-Ono City commenced on April 11. However, the body has not yet been found.

According to police, the suspect has also made statements hinting at murder.

The police are continuing their search for the body and investigating the details of the incident.
