Yakuza not prosecuted over alleged sale of apartment at inflated price to elderly

TOKYO (TR) – Prosecutors have announced the non-prosecution of a member of a criminal syndicate and eight others for allegedly targeting elderly people in the sale of used apartments at unreasonably high prices, reports Nippon News Network (Apr. 7).

The nine men, including Kanichi Ishii, who is also a senior member of an organization affiliated with the Sumiyoshi-kai, approached a woman in her 70s in 2023.

They then falsely led her to believe that an apartment they had acquired for 3 million yen was worth 22 million yen.

The Tachikawa branch of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office has decided not to indict the nine, who had been accused of fraud.

The branch stated that “after careful consideration of the nature of the fraud case and the content of the collected evidence, we decided not to indict them.”
