CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 29-year-old man over the assault of a second man met at a bar in Funabashi City last week. The victim later died, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 13).
Between approximately 3:25 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. on March 11, Yuya Orita, a company employee, allegedly pinned down Takayoshi Ono, 56, on a street in Funabashi City and repeatedly punching him in the face, causing injuries.
Ono was later pronounced dead at a hospital where he was taken.
According to the Funabashi Police Station, Orita stated, “I met [Ono] at a bar the day before the incident, and we went bar-hopping together. I can’t remember [the motive] because I was under the influence of alcohol.”
On Friday, police sent Orita to prosecutors on suspicion of manslaughter.

The two men are believed to have met at a bar the previous day and some kind of trouble occurred while they were drinking at several establishments after midnight.
An analysis of security camera footage taken near the scene led to Orita becoming a suspect. After police began searching for his whereabouts, he turned himself in on the night of March 11.
