Yakuza accused of possessing crossbow, bolts

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a male gangster for possession of a crossbow and arrows in Gunma Prefecture, reports TBS News (Mar. 10).

Police have accused Mikiya Takei, the 63-year-old boss of a subsidiary gang of the Matsuba-kai of violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.

Last month, Takei is suspected of possessing a crossbow and five bolts at his home in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture with the intent of killing or injuring people.

During questioning, Takei stated, “I just owned them because I like weapons.”

Two years ago, police received information two years ago that Takei was in possession of a handgun. Last month, a search of the relevant property revealed the crossbow and bolts.

Possession of a crossbow requires permission from the prefectural public safety commission.

This is the first case in Japan of aggravated possession of a crossbow and bolts by a gang member. Police are now investigating how Takei obtained the weapon.
