Man carried out dozens of burglaries ‘to pay for hostess clubs’

TOKYO (TR) – At least he didn’t squander it.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 54-year-old man who is suspected of committing dozens of burglaries to “pay for hostess clubs,” reports TBS News (Mar. 5).

In January, Mikio Miyahara, of no known occupation, is suspected of breaking into a home in Machida City and stealing a necklace and 16 other items worth a total of 480,000 yen.

During questioning, Miyahara admitted to the charges. “I used the money to pay for pachinko and hostess clubs,” he said.

According to police, Miyahara broke into the home by smashing a window with a screwdriver or other object.

Since last year, Miyahara has sold necklaces and other items to pawn shops on around 40 occasions for a total of around 10 million yen.

Police are continuing the investigate whether to accuse Miyahara of more crimes.
