KANAGAWA (TR) – A nude man found collapsed on the emergency stairs of a building in Yokohama city on Thursday later died, police said.
“We went to check it out and thought, ‘Wow, this is bad,'” a witness tells TV Asahi (Dec. 26). “He was completely unconscious, and his eyes were closed.”
According to police, a contractor found the Japanese man, believed to be in his 30s, unconscious and lying face-up on the emergency stairs of a building housing restaurants and karaoke bars in Chojamachi, Naka Ward, just before 10 p.m.
The man, who had bruises on the right side of the abdomen, was taken to the hospital but later died, police said.
He was found collapsed on the third floor. He is believed to have fallen from two floors above.
The man, who was nearly naked, is believed to have been dead for several hours.
Police are working to confirm the identity of the man. The case is being treated as an accident or the result of foul play.
The incident occurred in a downtown area approximately 500 meters from JR Kannai Station.
