Akashi police officer found collapsed later dies in apparent suicide

HYOGO (TR) – A male police sergeant from the Akashi Police who was found collapsed and bleeding from his head at Akashi Police Station in Akashi City on Saturday was later confirmed dead in an apparent suicide, reports Mainichi Broadcasting Station (Nov. 16).

At around 9:35 p.m., a fellow officer found the sergeant, assigned to the police affairs division, collapsed in the dojo workout room. he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to Akashi Police Station, the sergeant, 43, was found wearing his uniform and lying face up with a head injury. A handgun with signs of having been fired was found at the scene.

The police station is investigating the situation, believing it is likely that the sergeant, who was on night duty at the time, committed suicide.

Yasunori Hisatada, deputy chief, commented, “We are still investigating the cause, but it is unfortunate that it ended up like this.”
