Tokyo man alerts police about ‘having hunting rifle’ before apparent suicide

TOKYO (TR) – A man in his 70s living in a house in Adachi Ward is believed to have died on Tuesday after alerting police about his intentions to commit suicide, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 15).

At just past 2:30 p.m., police received a distress call. “I’m thinking of killing myself. I have a hunting rifle,” the caller said.

About four hours after the call, police officers entered the house from the side of the entrance and found the body of an unidentified man in the living room.

According to the Takenotsuka Police Station, the body, leaning against a wall, was holding a hunting rifle. There was what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the face.

The man lived alone in the house. Police are now working to identify the body. However, police suspect the deceased is the resident.

The incident occurred in a residential area about 300 meters northwest of Minumadai Shinsui Koen Station on the Nippori-Toneri Liner. Residents in the surrounding area were evacuated at one point.
