TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are seeking a man accused of molesting a woman inside a train who fled by jumping from a station platform during rush hour on Wednesday, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 30).
At around 8:30 a.m., a woman inside a carriage of the JR Saikyo Line accused the man of being a chikan (groper). After she grabbed his arm to take him to railway personnel at Akabane Station, the man bolted and climbed over a fence on the platform and down onto railway tracks. He then fled the scene heading north.
The incident subsequently caused the Saikyo Line to be delayed for 30 minutes, inconveniencing about 40,000 passengers.
Police are examining security camera footage to identify the man. He is wanted on suspicion of violating a public nuisance ordinance and the disruption of railway business.
A similar incident involving the Saikyo Line and a man believed to be in his 40s took place earlier this month.
