TOYAMA (TR) – Investigative sources revealed on Tuesday that a Toyama City-based organized crime group, targeted in multiple attacks earlier this year after severing relations with the Yamaguchi-gumi, has broken up, reports NHK (May 10).

Toyama Prefectural Police announced that representatives of the Takada-gumi had presented paperwork confirming the gang’s break up. That same day, a demolition crew could be seen using a backhoe to dismantle the gang’s head office, which is located in the Taya area.

In September, the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi formed as a rival to the Yamaguchi-gumi. Two gangs affiliated with the Takada-gumi were believed to have subsequently joined the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi. As a result, the office, a two-floor wood structure, was a target of a Molotov cocktail attack and a shooting in February and March.

According to Nippon News Network (May 10), the demolition of the Takada-gumi office is the first gang headquarters to be torn down nationwide since last year’s dissolution of the Yamaguchi-gumi.
