TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Friday announced the bust of a marijuana grow house in Nakano Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 12).

Between July and November of last year, Takashi Tsurii, 39, and Yutaka Tsuchiya, 34, are alleged to have cultivated 215 marijuana plants inside three apartments inside a building in the Kamitakada area.

A fourth apartment in the building was rented for the suspects to live.

The suspects have been charged with the cultivation of cannabis for money-making purposes. Tsurii admits to cultivating the plants. However, Tsuchiya denies the allegations.

The suspects were originally arrested in November for violations of the Narcotics Control Law.

In addition to the plants, police have seized 1.4 kilograms of dried cannabis, 100 grams of cocaine and an unspecified amount of MDMA, which is also known as Ecstasy, from the apartments. The total value of the contraband is estimated to be 19.5 million yen.
