FUKUSHIMA (TR) – Fukushima Prefectural Police have arrested the son and daughter of a 99-year-old woman whose corpse was found inside her residence in the town of Minamiaizu, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 11).
On Sunday, police visited the home of the woman, located in the Itabashi Yamaguchi area, and found her body inside a first-floor bedroom. The body did not have any external injuries.
Police subsequently arrested her son, Hiromu Sakai, 77, and his sister, Yuriko, 66, on charges of abandoning a corpse. Both suspects lived with their mother at the residence. According to the suspects, their mother had died in December.
Two days before the discovery, a representative from the Minamiaizu town hall consulted with the Minamiaizu Police Station have not being able to contact the woman for an extended period.
