TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a former actor for fraudulently opening a bank account on behalf of a hostess club accused in an overcharging scam, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 24).

On October 27 of last year, Kazuma Kawasaki, 38, allegedly opened a bank account at a branch in Minato Ward in the name of his father-in-law for use by club Hasta La Vista, which is located in the Kabukicho entertainment area of Shinjuku Ward.

In June, police busted the club for violating a metropolitan ordinance against bottakuri, or bill padding.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Kawasaki had obtained a bank passbook and cash card in the name of his father-in-law. On 11 occasions, a total of 20 million yen obtained through the overcharging scam was transferred to the account opened by the suspect, according to TBS News (Nov. 24).

Kawasaki admits to the allegations.

In 2002, the suspect appeared in the historical drama “Toshiie and Matsu” for public broadcaster NHK.
