KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police are working to identify a body found chained inside a burned-out vehicle parked in Zama City last week, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 13).

On Thursday morning, a 45-year-old jogger telephoned emergency services after discovering a passenger vehicle on fire and a body in the back seat. The hands and torso of the charred body had been tied by steel chains.

A fire crew arriving at the scene extinguished the blaze after approximately one hour.

According to police, the owner of the car is a male office worker in his 20s who lives in Zama. Police have been unable to reach him since the discovery of the vehicle.

Police are considering the case to be either foul play or suicide. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and time of death.
