KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Thursday said suffocation was the cause of death of a woman whose corpse was discovered floating off the coast of Miura City, reports TBS News (July 30).

An autopsy conducted on the body, which is believed to be that of a woman in her 30s or 40s, revealed a large quantity of water in the lungs.

On Wednesday morning, the body was found wrapped in a brown plastic sheet and floating about 20 meters off the coast in Koajiro Bay. A yellow and black towing rope was used to attach the body to a concrete block.

Police believe that the woman was thrown into the water while alive and drowned. According to Nippon News Network (July 30), the woman died the day before her body was discovered.

Prefectural police have mobilized an investigative team consisting of 66 members for what is being treated a murder case.
