OSAKA (TR) – As a part of a crackdown on a black market area in Nishinari Ward, police on Tuesday arrested two street vendors for the sale of illegal adult videos in the Kamagasaki area, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 28).

Police took Satomi Kaneko, 60, and one other vendor into custody for the possession and sale of adult DVDs in which genitalia is not obscured, which is a requirement under the law.

Both suspects have admitted to the allegations.

Vendors in the Kamagasaki area frequently peddle illegal merchandise. Locals often refer to the area by its nickname “Airin” (loving district).

In addition, police cited more than 80 vendors in the area with operating without a license.

According to police, criminal activities in Kamagasaki have continued in spite of crackdowns in the past, and the latest action by law enforcement is part of an increased presence in the area.
