TOKYO (TR) – Personnel at JR Tokyo Station discovered a woman’s corpse on Sunday after opening a suitcase discarded in a locker last month and placed in storage, reports the Asahi Shimbun (May 31).

According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police, a security personnel retrieved the suitcase, which measures approximately 70 centimeters in height, from inside an unlocked coin locker near the Marunouchi Exit on the morning of April 26.

The suitcase was then placed in temporary storage. After the expiration of a one-month holding period, personnel opened the suitcase on Sunday morning.

According to Jiji Press (May 30), the body, which did not possess any external wounds, is believed to be that of an elderly woman measuring approximately 140 centimeters in height.

Police have launched an investigation on suspicion of abandonment of a corpse.
