TOKYO (TR) – Former adult video (AV) actress Hotaru Akane has died, her boyfriend announced via Facebook on Monday. She was 32, reports Sports Nippon (Aug. 30).

Toshifumi Hara, the president of importing company Made By Japan, wrote that he found Akane collapsed on the floor after he returned home on August 15. She was later confirmed dead.

The results of an autopsy did not reveal the cause of death. However, suicide and foul play have been ruled out as causes. Hara wrote that Akane had been suffering from a severe cough. “Because there was evidence that she had been smoking a cigarette, it is possible that she died due to suffocation stemming from an acute asthma attack,” he wrote.

Akane, a native of Osaka, made her debut in the AV industry in 2004. Over the course of a 1,000-film career, she became known as Japan’s “Shiofuki Queen” due to her ability to coerce herself to ejaculate, as displayed in the 2006 film “Hotaru Akane and Ayano Murasaki: Splash Heaven.”

Following her retirement from the industry in 2008, Akane became an activist in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Most recently, she had been working as a DJ and pole-dance instructor.

According to Hara, a funeral service for Akane was attended by family and friends. However, a special club event in her honor will take place in Shibuya Ward on October 8.
