Officers from the TMD’s community safety division took Masatoshi Okuta, the 40-year-old president of advertising firm Cuse Agency, located in Saitama Prefecture, into custody for violating the adult-entertainment law. The suspect is accused of commissioning ads for massage parlor Angel Baby, which was operating illegally in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward, in the pages of Nikkan Gendai.
“I didn’t try to undercut the illegal sex shops on ad rates and it was profitable,” Okuta is quoted as saying by police.
The offices of the evening tabloid, located in Tsukiji, Chuo Ward, were among three locations searched by police on October 27.
According to investigators, Cuse Agency started operations in 2000 and maintained a contract with Nikkan Gendai. Ads for seven clubs offering prostitution inside the paper generated one million yen in monthly revenue.
Between August and September, the tabloid ran ads for Angel Baby, whose services include the use of one room at rates starting at 7,000 yen for 60 minutes. Police arrested the manager of the establishment, a 31-year-old Chinese national, also for violating the adult-entertainment law on October 21.
