OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have linked a former taxi driver accused of sexual assault to a series of rapes dating back nearly a decade, reports TBS News (Oct. 31).
On an evening in June, Kohei Onishi, 31, is alleged to have sexually assaulted a female passenger, aged in her 20s, seated in the back seat of his cab after he stopped in Nishiyodogawa Ward. Onishi was arrested at the scene by an officer on patrol.
The results of a subsequent analysis of the suspect’s DNA proved to be a match for evidence left at two crime scenes dating back eight and nine years. In one of the cases, a woman in her 20s was raped in Daito City.
Onishi, who is currently under prosecution for indecent assault, was subsequently re-arrested on charges of rape.
