TOKYO (TR) – A Toei bus driver crashed into a traffic light in Edogawa Ward while attempting to swat away a mosquito, leaving two passengers injured, police said, reports Fuji News Network (Aug. 26).
The incident occurred at an intersection in Nishi-Kasai at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A witness dialed emergency services, reporting, “A bus has crashed. Someone has a bleeding nose.”
According to police, the driver, a man in his 40s, lost control of the steering wheel and slammed into a roadside traffic light. Two male passengers, one in his 50s and the other in his 60s, sustained minor injuries after striking their foreheads upon impact.
The driver, who emerged from the collision uninjured, explained the sudden crash to officers by stating, “I was trying to swat away a mosquito.”
The force of the accident snapped the traffic light pole. Police were forced to manually direct traffic at the intersection while they continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash.
