Last year, Dr. Kunio Kitamura, the chief of the research center at the Japan Family Planning Association, was asked by condom maker Jex to administer a sex survey among 6,961 people (4,254 men, 2,707 women).
Shukan Jitsuwa (Mar. 14) was particularly intrigued by the answers from the female participants.
In answering a question about masturbation, 71.3 percent of the women indicated that they had experienced solo sex in the past year.
To break down the responses: 17.8 percent wank weekly, 9.3 percent twice a week, 17 percent once every two weeks, 24 percent monthly, and 16.6 percent once every two or three months.
Shukan Jitsuwa, which has a mostly male readership, did not anticipate such frequent fiddling.
In probing the reason, the examiners concluded that the rates are directly proportional to a lack of satisfaction in conventional intercourse. Among unmarried women, 67.1 percent said they fake orgasms. The figure was slightly less (64.2 percent) for married women.
“Coming to see me are women who say that they are not satisfied if they do not masturbate after sex,” says counselor Ai Aoyama, who also operates the out-call deri heru sex service Aoyama Relaxation. “Nowadays, young guys do not satisfy women.”
The counselor, whose call-girl business utilizes hotel rooms in the Kabukicho red-light district and Shin Okubo with rates starting at 10,000 yen for the first 60 minutes, gives two reasons for the failure in fulfillment.
“First of all, the number of guys who are plain or lacking in motivation is on the rise,” she says.
Aoyama, who used to be an adult video actress, also believes that guys these days not understand the importance of foreplay.
“They watch AV flicks and think that just sticking it in is good enough,” Aoyama says.
The aforementioned masturbation figures indicate that women are generally frustrated, says the counselor.
“If this phenomenon continues,” Aoyama continues, “a generation of women finding pleasure with middle-aged men will emerge.”
