Man accused in Ibaraki stabbing: ‘I thought I was being targeted’

IBARAKI (TR) – A 23-year-old construction worker from Tsukuba City in custody in connection with the stabbing of a man has month has been re-arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said, reports TBS News (Apr. 6).

On Sunday, Ibaraki Prefectural Police accused Ryuki Okano of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a 21-year-old male part-time worker in the back at approximately 12:45 a.m. on March 25.

In commenting on the latest allegations, Okano admitted to the charges, police said.

Two hours after the incident, the suspect visited Tsukuba Police Station with a bloodstained knife and was arrested on the spot for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.

“I stabbed a man I didn’t know,” he said. “I thought I was being targeted.”

The victim suffered a single wound to the back. His condition was considered critical upon transport to a hospital.

It is believed that the victim and Okano did not know each other.
