Hakodate official arrested for swindling ¥1.56 million from bicycle racing funds

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police in Hakodate City have arrested a 28-year-old municipal worker on suspicion of defrauding a city-managed bank account for keirin (bicycle racing), reports Fuji News Network (June 8).

Tatsuki Kondo, an employee of the Hakodate City Keirin Business Department, is facing charges of fraud and the forgery of private documents.

Between August and October, Kondo allegedly used forged refund request forms on 10 separate occasions to siphon 1.56 million yen from an account used to manage sales funds for the city’s bicycle racing operations.

During police questioning, Kondo admitted to the allegations.

The investigation is ongoing, with police suspecting that Kondo used the same scheme to swindle more than 10 million yen in total from the city. Authorities are currently probing his involvement in these additional crimes.
