GUNMA (TR) – Gunma Prefectural Police have arrested a 36-year-old man over the alleged strangulation of his mother at their home in Kiryu City, reports NHK (June 28).
At around 3:30 a.m. on June 28, Kazutaka Itoi strangled his mother, 68-year-old Kimiyo Itoi, with his hands at their residence in Umedacho.
Kimiyo was later confirmed dead at a hospital where she was taken.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Itoi admitted to the allegations. “There’s no doubt that I tried to strangle her to death,” the suspect said.
As the incident unfolded, a neighbor called police to report hearing a woman’s voice calling for help. When police arrived at the home, they found Kimiyo collapsed.
Police have since changed the charge to murder. They are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
