Between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on April 18, Ryoma Hanayama is suspected of burying the body of his father, 87-year-old Ryuichi, in the ground at a materials storage facility in Kokuraminami Ward, reports TBS News (May 24).
Upon his arrest this week, Hanayama denied the allegations. He said, “I didn’t do it.”
In latest development, police have also arrested his acquaintance, 42-year-old Mami Fukuda. She as well denies the allegations, police said.

Body was wrapped in a sheet
Hanayama is the 46-year-old president of a civil engineering and construction company in Kokurakita Ward. The materials storage facility is managed by the same company.
According to police, Fukuda has known Ryoma since childhood. Her involvement in the incident surfaced based on the communication history via smartphone between her and Ryoma.
Ryuichi was reported missing by relatives on April 18. He was last seen at around 3:00 p.m. the day before, when an acquaintance saw him driving to his home.
An examination of security camera footage and a car linked to the suspect later led police to the location where the body of Ryuichi was found on May 20. The decomposed body was wrapped in a sheet buried in the yard.
Police are also aware that Ryuichi and Ryoma had been engaged in a dispute.
