Chinese man accused in fatal stabbing of female colleague

CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 39-year-old Chinese man over the alleged fatal stabbing a female colleague at their workplace in Isumi City on Friday, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 6).

At just before 10:00 a.m., police received a call from a third employee at the company. “She is lying on the ground bleeding. She has been stabbed with a knife. There is also a suspect, and we’ve taken him into custody,” the caller said.

Michiyo Tateishi, 58, was later taken to a hospital in critical condition and unconscious. She was confirmed dead about an hour and a half after the call was made.

Police first arrested Liu Ke on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder. During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime. “I’m certain I stabbed the female victim with a knife I brought from home,” he said.

Investigators believe that Liu and Tateishi were in a meeting at the time when Liu suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times in the face and neck.

Two colleagues then subdued Liu.

Liu and Tateishi work in different departments in the company, which manufactures glass and other products. They have reportedly not had any prior contact with the police about any problems.

Police have since changed the charge to murder. The investigation is ongoing, specifically into the possibility that there was some kind of trouble between the two.
