FUKUSHIMA (TR) – Fukushima Prefectural Police launched an investigation after a corpse was found in a burned-out vehicle in Minamisoma City over the weekend, reports Kyodo News (Sep. 15).
At around 2 a.m. on September 15, multiple users of Minamisoma Roadside Station in Haramachi Ward called police to report that a car parked in the parking lot was on fire.
Police arriving at the scene found the car to be almost completely burned with one body in the backseat. A gasoline can was also found inside.
Due to extensive burns on the body, the approximate age and gender of the person are not known, according to the Minamisoma Police Station.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire and seeking to confirm the identity of the body.
The incident took place along National Route 6, about 1 kilometer east of JR Haranomachi Station.
