KANAGAWA (TR) – Video footage shows police apprehending a man suspected in the stabbing of the president of a real estate company in Atsugi City on Monday, reports Fuji News Network (May 27).
In the clip, many police officers surrounding Masaaki Omori, 59, on a street and eventually push him up against a fence at around 2:15 p.m.
The stabbing took place about 400 meters away at around 1:35 p.m. An unknown assailant stabbed the real estate executive, aged in his 70s, in the abdomen and back with a knife.
The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital, but his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, according to the Atsugi Police Station.
As a part of the investigation, a police officer began questioning Omori on the street about 400 meters away. During the session, he got violent, which led to his arrest on suspicion of obstruction of justice.
The suspect allegedly pressed his right arm against the neck of a 35-year-old male police sergeant. Omori has declined to comment on the allegations, police said.
At the time of his apprehension, Omori was not carrying a knife. No police officers were injured during the suspect’s apprehension.
The investigation is continuing on suspicion of attempted murder.
