TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on Saturday the arrest of one suspect in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district of Shinjuku Ward for the possession and sale of uncensored adult video DVDs, reports TV Asahi (Nov. 3).
According to the metropolitan police department’s Shinjuku Station, officers took manager Toshihiko Yamanoue, 57, into custody for violating a law regarding the unauthorized creation of electromagnetic materials for the purpose of sale or ownership.
The suspect was heard inviting potential customers into his shop from the streets of Kabukicho on Thursday. Investigators raided Yamanoue’s establishment and seized 7,000 discs and three computers.
“I know that it is against the law, but I don’t have a job and need money,” the suspect is quoted by police in admitting to the allegations.
According to police, Yamanoue generates 20 million yen in revenue. This is the third time this year that his shop has been busted.
By law, films available in Japan are required to have genitalia properly censored. Further, changes in legislation made in July regarding the sale of uncensored DVDs copied electromagnetically were enacted to prohibit sales.
