TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 51-year-old Iran-born man in the sexual assault of a woman who had been lured by the prospect of “becoming a model,” reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 14).
On September 16, Rari Tanaka, a resident of Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, called out to the woman, aged in her 20s, at a shopping center in Minato Ward. He then escorted her to a parking lot where he allegedly raped her inside a vehicle.
The victim suffered injuries that required one week to heal.
Tanaka, who has been charged with rape inflicting injury, denies the allegations. “It was consensual,” the suspect is quoted by the Akasaka Police Station, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 13).
In carrying out the crime, Tanaka falsely told the victim that he was an employee for a foreign clothing brand. “Aren’t you interested in becoming a model for show?” he asked. He then took her to the parking lot.
