TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on Thursday the bust of an operation in Shinjuku Ward that sold uncensored adult video DVDs, reports Nippon Television Network (Apr. 25).
On Tuesday, officers took managers Yutaka Ono, 62, Munemitsu Sato, 58, and two other suspects into custody for violating obscenity laws after a raid of a shop in the Kabukicho red-light district and a warehouse resulted in the seizure of 13,500 illegal discs.
Ono has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
The DVDs were reportedly being sold at a rate of 50 discs for 20,000 yen.
By law, films available in Japan are required to have genitalia properly censored. Further, changes in legislation made in July of 2011 regarding the sale of uncensored DVDs copied electromagnetically were enacted to prohibit sales.
According to Fuji News Network (Apr. 25), the operation had collected 42 million yen in sales since October of last year.
According to investigators, the shop did not stock DVDs. Instead, orders were placed and customers retrieved the selections from designated coin lockers.
