SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 31-year-old man who is being investigated for a stabbing rampage in Hamamatsu City that resulted in the death of three relatives, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (April 22).

At just after 3:05 a.m. on Friday, the father of Yoshitaka Ikeya, a company employee, called police to report that he and other family members had been stabbed by his son at their residence in Kita Ward. Police arriving at the scene found three people dead, including the suspect’s grandmother (83), mother (62) and sister (32).

Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene in a car. He then got into an accident about one kilometer from the residence and abandoned the vehicle.

About four and a half hours later, police arrested Ikeya after he was spotted near a convenience store, located about 3.5 kilometers from the crime scene.

Ikeya, who has been charged with attempted murder, has admitted stabbing his father. Police are currently investigating the deaths of the other three family members.

The suspect and four victims all shared the residence.

The suspect’s father, who received injuries to his side in the attack, is currently receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.
