NIIGATA (TR) – Niigata Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body along a sightseeing route in Niigata City, reports TV Asahi (May 15).
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, a male university student traveling by car telephoned a local fire department after finding the body of the woman, measuring approximately 150 centimeters in height, lying in a lane of traffic along the Mt. Yahiko Skyline in Nishikan Ward.
The woman was bleeding from a wound to the back of her head, and the backs of her hands were scratched. She was confirmed dead at the scene.
The body was clothed in a shirt and pants but did not have shoes. No personal articles were found at the scene.
Police treating the case as the result of foul play or an accident and seeking to identify the woman.
The skyline provides access to Mt. Yakiko, a volcano located about one hour from Niigata.
