NAGASAKI (TR) – Nagasaki Prefectural police have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of the body of a man whose mother’s corpse had been found just hours before, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 24).

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, investigators found the body of Akira Hirano, 65, lying face-up inside a room of his second-floor apartment in the Yanagidanimachi area. The body showed signs of having been strangled.

Three hours before, the body of his 89-year-old mother, Sumie, was found floating in Nagasaki Harbor. The corpse exhibited no signs of external wounds.

Police then visited the home of Hirano, whose apartment was unlocked. His body was found atop a futon.

The day before, Hirano had been released from a hospital after undergoing treatment for a mental disorder.

Police are now attempting to determine the causes of the two deaths and whether the incidents are connected.
