Man accused of strangling woman in Kawasaki apartment

KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 78-year-old man for strangling a woman who lived with in a unit in a housing complex in Kawasaki City, reports Kyodo News (July 13).

At around midnight on July 10, Kazuo Tsukui allegedly strangled Lee In-sun, 68, at the unit they shared in the building in Saiwai Ward.

According to the Saiwai Police Station, officers rushed to the residence after receiving a consultation from Tsukui’s relative on the afternoon of July 12. “We cannot contact [Tsukui],” the relative said.

Upon their arrival, they found Lee unconscious inside. She was later confirmed dead.

Tsukui was present at the time of the discovery. “I thought we wanted to die together,” he said. He also admitted to allegations of attempted murder.

Police will now conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of Lee’s death. They are also investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
