KOCHI (TR) – Kochi Prefectural Police have arrested a 40-year-old man after he admitted to burning and dumping the body of a male acquaintance in the town of Ino, reports NHK (Dec. 16).

At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, a five-member survey crew found the body inside a light van near a tunnel in the Kuwaze area.

Officers from the Tosa Police Station arriving at the scene found the burned body in the truck of the vehicle. Though the gender of the corpse was not known, it appears it is of an adult.

Mitsuhiro Jinno, a resident of Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture was found to be behaving suspiciously in the same area.

Jinno told police that he was living with a man in 60s when he died suddenly. “With handling dead bodies being troublesome, I burned it in a nearby riverbed about 10 days ago and dumped it,” the suspect told police. “I thought there would be a problem with the survey team entering the area so I put it in the vehicle.”

Police are now seeking to confirm the identity of the body.
