Ibaraki cops search for thieves in ¥10 million jewelry store heist

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police are investigating a smash-and-grab theft of valuables from a jewelry store inside an outlet of the Aeon chain in Koga City, reports TV Asahi (May 10).

At approximately 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, police received a call from a security guard about a break-in at Jewelry Tsutsumi.

Officers arriving at the scene found the store’s entrance door had been smashed. Inside, several showcases were busted open and about a dozen items missing, including rings, necklaces and precious metals.

The value of the stolen merchandise is estimated to be 10 million yen.

An examination of security camera showed two or three men in black clothing and hats, pulled down to conceal their faces, entering the premises, accoridng to Fuji News Network (May 10). Police are seeking the whereabouts of the men for questioning about the incident.
